A few friends and I spent the last few days stand up paddleboarding on the coast of lake michigan. I had a chance to scope out the petoskey area on day one. It was pretty wavy out, we managed to catch a few small waves. The second day we went up to mackinaw island, which was a pretty cool experience. Couldn't bring the paddleboards on the ferry though.
The best experience was down in Traverse City.. it was a sunny Sunday afternoon, and we took our stand up paddleboards two miles up the lake michigan shoreline. Absolutely beautiful geography around those parts. There are also alot of inland lakes to check out. I wanted to go to the Sleeping bear dunes, but we just didn't have time.
A few things to mention... the lake michigan waves can have a pretty steep chop. Depending on your stand up paddle board riding style, this might not be the most stable of situations.
